We have a new face at home!

Anton got his top braces a few weeks ago!
We are waiting on two baby teeth on the bottom for the rest!

We now have Chicks!

The chicks made their finally arrival home!  After spending some time at the farm since we lack proper brooding facilities, we brought them home on Saturday.  We have about twice what we need right now as the other half goes to a friend who will get hers in a week or two.  So it will not be as crowded as right now.

This is a new portable coop.  It will work till the fruit trees get larger to provide protection from areal predators, those red tail hawks most specifically.

Hurricanes and Tropical Storms, Oh My!

"Too wet to go out,
too cold to play ball.
So we sat in the house and
did nothing at all......"

OK so we know that is not true!
We have been getting a beating here on the rain.
Roads are closing, sink holes are appearing.
It can only mean one thing,
time to catch up on our reading, movies, and Wii skills!

Who knows when we will have soccer again!
The schools here have already used three of their snow days because of
the earthquake,
Hurricane Irene,
and Tropical Storm Lee
causing damage to buildings and roads.
So, does this make my kiddos ahead of their peers since we have been schooling for awhile and not taken off these other days?
Maybe we will take some time off when Spring Fever hits later in the school year.
Seriously, what is really inconvenient is the library has closed too!
Isabella is in serious withdrawal!  If she decides to not become a vet,
which I seriously doubt since she was asking Karl to help her look up vet schools over the weekend (she's only 9),
she will become a librarian!
She just loved books.

I think I need to go re-organize my pantry!
My label maker tape just came in the mail.

Be safe and check out the road reports before getting out all my local friends!

A Crazy Summer is Ending

First, I promise to get pictures up loaded as soon as I get them off my camera!  It has been a very active and full summer this year.  I mean, I could just say I have had nothing to write about, but then I would get some finger wagging!

Yes, we are alive and well after an earthquake and a hurricane all within two weeks.  During this run in with Mother Nature, we lost two fruit trees and we are on the fence about some pine trees.  Karl's fort held strong, even the screening stayed put!  We did lose power from Saturday night through Monday night, but we got the generator out of the box and started it up.  We tried to tough it out for the first 24 hours, having already filled the tubs with water for toilets, stored water in fridge and basement, and turned all freezer/fridges to highest setting, we were doing OK.  But at the 24 hour mark, and after seeing the power lines to our house in both directions on the ground, we figured the end would be later than sooner.  So, open the box we did.  Soon we had the fridge/freezers plugged in and Karl was able to make a cable to send power to our upstairs lights and fans.  This is great but no water still as our well pump runs on electricity and no small load either.  Karl was all prepared to construct another power cord from the generator to juice up the pump when the power came back on.

I will write more soon as our schedule smooths out with schooling and activities get us more on routine!  I have so much to write about!!!!
